Kakashi makes a full recovery, but Naruto's eagerness to begin his training puts
a dent in his plans to lounge at his own home for awhile.
Naruto and Kakashi gather in an open field. Naruto feels nostalgic at the
thought of Kakashi training him again, but there is little to no time for
laughter. The development of Naruto's ultimate ninjutsu relies on two key
factors: chakra shape and nature manipulation.
To simulate this, Kakashi has Naruto create a Rasengan, but not use it. This is
an example of shape manipulation- the chakra within the Rasengan is rotated at
an intense speed, but compressed to retain the shape. This shape manipulation
takes Rasengan to its ultimate level, yet there's more to it than that. Next up
is chakra nature manipulation.
Chidori, for example, starts off as simple lightning, but as Kakashi
demonstrates, it can be recomposed to resemble concentrated electricity, and
then changes the shape to a power surge, which determines the power and range.
For Naruto to do this with Rasengan, he'll have to use both shape and nature
manipulation.
It sounds simple for Naruto, who doesn't even know what his nature is, so
Kakashi continues.
There are five basic types of chakra elemental natures: earth, wind, fire,
lightning and water. Every person is geared towards one, but special cases, such
as Sasuke- suited to both fire and lightning- can manipulate more than one
nature. As Naruto does not know his nature yet, Kakashi pulls out several slips
of paper. If he is geared towards wind, the paper will tear down the middle,
burn if fire, get soggy if water, scrunch if lightning, and crumble if earth.
Naruto closes his eyes and concentrates. After a few tense seconds, the paper
splits down the middle, confirming Naruto's chakra nature: wind. The training
procedure will take a very long time, but before Kakashi can explain how to
shorten this, Yamato arrives to help with the training. Naruto decides to ask
what type of nature manipulation is his wood element.
Yes, he does that.
Yamato starts off with Doton, Doryuu Jouheki (Earth Earth rampart) to summon a
mountainous chunk of earth and follows it with Suiton, Takitsubo no Jutsu (Water
Waterfall Basin Jutsu) and adds a waterfall.
By the time one becomes a Jonin, they are able to use at least two types of
elements. Wood is not one of the basic elements, so Yamato mixes both earth and
water to create wood. This of mixing two elements is not unlike the Kekkai
Genkai of others like Haku, who specialized in ice element by combining water
and wind. Such a technique is exclusive to a certain clan, so there's no way
Kakashi could copy it.
Naruto takes this a step further and asks about things like Shikamaru's Kagemane
no Jutsu, Chouji's Baika no Jutsu, medical ninjutsu, the list can go on and on
and Kakashi has no time to explain things like that.
Cutting the amount of training time requires using Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu
(Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu). Unlike a normal Bunshin, a Kage Bunshin is an actual
body and has the same physical characteristics of the creator. When used, any
knowledge gained by the clones is transferred to the original user.
It's still like calculus to Naruto.
So the two create Kage Bunshins. The shadow clones go into the woods and have a
game of rock, paper, scissors with Naruto as the victor. Once the jutsu is
released, the original Naruto, who remained with Kakashi, realizes that he has
won (as well as a treat to Ichiraku Ramen). Even though Kage Bunshin is Naruto's
signature jutsu, he never caught on that the experience gained by the clones
transferred to him.
Naruto doesn't get how this relates to speed training, while Kakashi doesn't get
how in the hell Jiraiya taught the Rasengan to someone like Naruto.
By training with another clone, Naruto gets twice the benefit. Half of that time
with two more clones, a third in three, and a thousandth with one thousand
clones. So for the training, Naruto has to summon as many Kage Bunshins as he
can to quicken the training process.
It's not a training process for someone like Kakashi, who lacks Naruto's stamina
and chakra level. If the seal on the Kyubi was released, Naruto would have one
hundred times the strength he has now. But with a constant stream of chakra
being used, there's a chance of Naruto releasing the Kyubi, so Yamato is there
to help suppress the Kyubi.
The first step to the training is to control the chakra element. Kakashi gives
Naruto a leaf and instructs him to hold onto it and cut it with just chakra.
Naruto summons as many Kage Bunshins as the leaves on a nearby tree and begins
the training the process. Amongst the many clones, one is able to make a small
cut on the leaf.
Surprising to Kakashi, the training may go faster than expected.
