Those Who Inherit

The opening scene of the episode is a forest where shapes are flying from tree to tree in a blur. It then cues to a grassy plain where shapes are running through the high grass. and then back to the woods.

Back to the plain where teams Gai and Kakashi are standing around Eldar Chiyo, who is struggling to get the chakra out of her body needed to ressurrect Gaara. Kakashi and Gai realise what's going on while Naruto screams out "What's going on". He's surprised when Sakura stops Naruto from moving forward with her hand. While looking on a struggling Eldar Chiyo, sakura thinks to herself that Chiyo is going to exchange her life for Gaara's.

Naruto again starts to ask what is happening and Sakura stops him with a look that reveals more then words could. She then tells everyone that Chiyo is going to ressurrect Gaara. This causes Gai, Kakashi and Neiji to realise exactly what's going on. A surprised Naruto does not realise the full implications of the technique.

He moves forward to lend a shocked Chiyo, who still doesn't understand why Naruto wants to save Gaara so much, his Chakra. She then thinks back to her conversation with Kakashi about Naruto, Gaara and the Jinchurikki and realises Naruto's true strength. She then tells all that she is glad people like Naruto exist and that he is going to be a Hokage like none before him. She also compares Sakura to herself and says that not many girls are as chivalrous as her and that she will surpass Tsunade. She then asks Naruto to save Gaara as he's the only one who understands his pain.

A flashback to the now classic scene with 12 year old Naruto now surrounded by all the freinds he has gained. He pushes past the 3rd Hokage and Jiraiya and runs over to a young Gaara who is crying. The present Gaara looks at his hand in a haze, while at the same time seeing his tragic childhood in his mind. Naruto then "saves" him from his past and awakens him to the present.

A shocked Gaara looks at Naruto and then around him, where the shadows brighten (to some of the best background music ever) to reveal what appears to be every sand shinobi standing around him. Those blurs in the opening scene were the bodies of the worried sand shinobi rushing to save Gaara. Gaara is shocked that he finally has people who care about him as the surrounding shinobi cry for their revived Kazekage. The girl from the last filler arc before the start of shippuuden asks if Gaara is okay and then everyone screams in delight.

Naruto is knocked over by the sam girl and one of here freinds who wee commenting on Gaara's skills and handsomeness. Temari protects Gaara from them as Kankuro tells thanks Naruto and then tells a shocked Naruto that Chiyo gave up her life to save Gaara using a forbidden technique. Kankuro then explains the origins of the technique. A saddened Gaara looks at Chiyo, coming as close to teary eyed as possible for him. As he is touched that someone would do such a thing for him. Kankuro is confirmed by Kakashi and Gai who nods to tell Lee that Kankuro speaks the truth.

Then Temari comments that Naruto is a truly special person who gas the power to save people. Eldar Chiyo was not the type of person who would save Gaara, and yet Naruto changed her. Just like he changed Gaara and Neiji.

Throughout all this, a teary-eyed Sakura is holding Elday Chiyo while the other Eldar stands beside her.

Kakashi comments that it was an ending befitting a true shinobi and Naruto says that she's just like the Third. This being an allusion to Sarutobi using the forbidden technique to take away Orochimaru's techniques and saving Konoha.

Gaara is touched by Chiyo's sacrifice and by the surrounding shinobi, who have proven that there are people who do care about him. And by Naruto, who has proven that Gaara has a loyal freind. Gaara tries to get up and is only prevented from Falling by Naruto, who is looking off the screen to Chiyo. Sakura looks up and sees the two jinchurikki Naruto and Gaara, the future of the Sand and leaf, standing together looking at her and Chiyo. Gaara bows his head in respect and asks everyone to pray for Eldar Chiyo. Naruto and then everyone else, ending with a still crying Sakura, bow their head. Then the scene pans out to the entire group standing with heads bowed against the sunrise.
