The Result of the Betrayal

Long story short, Danzou does not like Konoha the way it is since Tsunade built it upon the foundations of the Sandaime Hokage. Therefore, the only way to make a change is to cause as huge an incident as when Orochimaru, along with the Sand, attacked Konoha three years ago. However, Danzou's ambition is not to destroy Konoha, but just to rule it himself and create his own laws. So Sai's actual mission is to gain Orochimaru's trust. So Yamato's team may have to…deal with Sai themselves.

In the trees, further ahead, Orochimaru and Kabuto notice that they are being followed. Whether or not Sai is being followed or allowing himself to be tracked, Kabuto and Orochimaru know that they will have a corpse on their hands. Kabuto agrees and tips his glasses as he withdraws a kunai and turns in Sai's direction.

For Sakura, it isn't as simple as it sounds to attack someone she considered a teammate, but Naruto, who seems energetic at first, loses consciousness and collapses. With Naruto out of commission for the time, Yamato considers leaving Naruto behind until he has the strength to make it back to the village on his own. At first, Sakura reminds Yamato that Kakashi would never do something like that, but Yamato isn't Kakashi and Naruto tries to reassure her that he will be fine. Yamato knows too well Kakashi's devotion to his friends, and Naruto and Sakura reflect on how he promised never to let them die. But Naruto and Sakura aren't kids anymore; they will eventually have to surpass Kakashi. They won't get second chances when dealing with Orochimaru- or eventually Sasuke- so they have to learn to grow up.

Naruto eventually staggers to his feet as he, Sakura, and Yamato prepare to take off.

Meanwhile, Yamato's clone stumbles upon Sai's body, which is conveniently dangling from a tree.

Naruto's consciousness begins to fail him once again, but he uses the momentum to propel himself forward before he can faint again. Sakura, however, still feeling the injuries in her arm, loses her footing and though Naruto is too slow to catch her, Yamato rescues her before she hits the ground. The mark where one of Naruto's tails hit Sakura is slowing her down and the Kyuubi's chakra is like a poison to her body. Kabuto may have been able to heal the wound temporarily, but it did not do away with all of the pain. Sakura covers it up with another lie: this time that Orochimaru attacked her.

With the team slowed down at the moment, Yamato uses this moment to recuperate. Sakura is the medical shinobi of the team, and if her injury becomes a problem, who will be there to heal Naruto and Yamato? The two decide to use the opportunity to plan an attack pattern.

As Yamato's clone inspects the body, a series of events occur when he cuts the rope: first, a slew of kunai and shuriken race from some bushes, and when the clone jumps to another tree, more kunai, this time with explosive notes attached, zone in on him. Kabuto's plan, coupled with the fake body he created, has helped him slow down their pursuers. As if that wasn't enough, when Yamato's clone inspects the body, he notices explosive notes hidden under Sai's top as the real Yamato overhears the explosion.

When Yamato gets far enough away from Sakura, he gets serious and bluntly tells Naruto that HE was the one who hurt Sakura and caused her to be in so much pain.

Fear laces Naruto's face and words escape him.
