The Picture Book Tells A Story

Door after door and Sasuke is still nowhere to be found. Sakura is a bit hasty and rushes forward without checking to make sure the doors are secure, Kabuto cannot talk his way out of guiding Yamato's clone to Sasuke, and Naruto is still fatigued from the overuse of the Kyuubi's chakra. The search is not going well.

When Naruto wakes up after his collapse, Sai begins talking about his brother and how similar he is to Naruto. Before Sai can continue, he thinks back to when he was younger. Three children are going through target practice with kunai and shuriken, while a fourth one, Sai, sits by a tree and draws. He thinks back to the cheeky grin his brother gave him while looking at his drawings, how his brother always helped him during missions.

Sai snaps back to reality and gets to work. He at last remembers what he wanted to draw on the last page: the faceless shinobi turn out to be Sai and his brother holding hands…and smiling. The picture of their dreams, as Sai calls it.

None of this matters to Orochimaru, who arrives and asks which side Sai is on. He sends several snakes forward with Sen'ei Jashu (Hidden Shadow Snake Hands) and when Sai avoids them, that confirms Orochimaru's assumption that Sai is fighting for Konoha. Naruto plans to hold Orochimaru off while Sai finds Sasuke.

Elsewhere, Yamato senses the rise in Naruto's chakra as he and Sakura head in Naruto's direction. All of Naruto's Kage Bunshins are eliminated with ease and Naruto is not able to pose as much of a threat as he could with the Kyuubi's chakra. Naruto thinks back to when Yamato told him that if he wanted to get stronger, to protect those he cared about, do it through his own chakra and not the Kyuubi's. Yamato and Sakura arrive for backup.

Sai summons a series of rats and sends them into the maze before he gets a lock. Orochimaru requests that Naruto kill at least one member of Akatsuki for him; that lessens his problems. He vanishes before Naruto can understand what this means. At a risk, Naruto plans to use the rest of his chakra to form many Kage Bunshins to search the maze, but Sakura's focus is on Sai's backpack and book, which he left behind. Naruto tells them the warm tale of how Sai dug his emotions out from the bottom of his heart and put them into his drawing, but Yamato isn't so sure when he stumbles upon Sai's assassination list, basically the same thing as a Bingo Book that the ANBU use.

The large X's on the photos clearly mean that the target has been eliminated, but some targets don't have X's on them yet. One of those targets is Uchiha Sasuke, who Sai has finally found.
