Squirm

To quicken the training, one of Naruto's Kage Bunshins asks Kakashi if anyone else in Konoha has the wind element nature, and there is: Asuma.

In the middle of a game of shogi with Shikamaru, Asuma agrees to give Naruto some tips in exchange for paying the bill next time Asuma's team eats out. It's pushing his expenses, but Naruto agrees. Asuma pulls out two chakra blades: blades that absorb a user's chakra and react to the user's nature.

Naruto channels some chakra into a blade, but it is not as refined as Asuma's. Asuma tells him to imagine his chakra splitting two halves that rub against each other. After that, rejoin them until they are thin and sharp, just like a blade. Naruto does not see the importance of putting chakra into a blade when a blade by itself is more than enough when battling.

To disprove this, Asuma and Naruto throw their blades at a tree. Naruto's blade barely goes through the tree, but Asuma's goes right through the tree and pierces the boulder behind it- he was holding back. In combat, Asuma explains, the stronger blade wins the battle. The Kage Bunshin takes this knowledge and the ones training pick up on the learned information to quicken their training.

Meanwhile, Shizune informs Tsunade that there's been an attack at the Fire Country's border. It's unknown whether or not it's Akatsuki, but it's possible that the attack came from the Hidden Rain Village. This could lead to a war between the two countries, so Tsunade calls for Asuma. It's a risk since the village will be short one Jounin, but something must be done.

And something is done: Asuma purchases flowers for Kurenai. His love interest is not unknown to Shikamaru, Chouji, and Ino, but no time for teasing. The four of them, despite not being on the same team anymore, are brought back together to head to the Fire Country's border to investigate.

Naruto cuts through the leaf and is ready to move onto the second step, but as a result using so many Kage Bunshins, Naruto acquires all of their fatigue as well as experience. Kakashi catches him before he collapses as Sakura and Sai rush to inform him of something Tsunade requests.

As Team 10 regroups for the first time in a long time, Ino points out to Asuma that everyone on the team is wearing the special earrings that Asuma gave them when Chouji and Ino became Chuunin.

At the same time, new Team Yamato prepares to go on a mission and run into Konohamaru's team on the way. As Konohamaru leaves, he bids farewell to his Uncle Asuma. New news to Naruto, Asuma is Konohamaru's uncle, which, in turn, makes him the son of the Sandaime Hokage himself.

As Yamato is leading the team, Kakashi is given instructions from Tsunade to team up with Jiraiya to find out anything he can about Akatsuki.

Elsewhere, in a ruined village, four figures stand atop the wreckage and prepare to awaken the Fire Village.
