Reunion
Bonds? Sasuke's sleep was disturbed by bonds?
Although Naruto is again surprised at Sai's duplicity, Sakura remembers how she
gave Sai a fake smile before punching him and how Sai could use that same fake
smile to fool others.
Sai informs Sasuke that he has come to take him back to Konoha because he has
been inspired by Naruto's tale of bonds and deep friendships.
"You disturbed my sleep for that?"
An explosion rips through the walls of Orochimaru's hideout and terrain hideout.
Sai, surprised that Sasuke could overcome his jutsu, stands on the ground,
looking up at the Uchiha. Naruto, Yamato, and Sakura see a light at the end of a
tunnel and see none other than Sai standing at the exit. Sakura rushes towards
the exit and seizes Sai by his neck. Ready to kill, she demands to know how much
longer Sai plans to stab them in the back, how many more times will he betray
them, and just what in the hell is he planning to do.
But before Sakura can continue, a voice utters "Sakura, huh?"
That familiar voice freezes Sakura in her place as she looks up with shocked
eyes and releases her grip on Sai. She stares at the shadowed figure as Naruto,
hearing the same familiar voice, runs with all of the life in him and as far as
his legs would take him as he reaches Sai and Sakura. His gaze is no different
from Sakura's.
After almost three long years of searching, training, and waiting, after a long
battle at the Valley of the End, after the two of them giving it everything they
had to achieve their goals, Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Sasuke meet face to face.
A surprise for Sasuke, however, is that Kakashi is not present. Even more is
that someone has replaced him, but both are small matters to him.
Sai withdraws his sword, and before Sakura can yell another accusation, Sai
admits that even though his orders were to assassinate Sasuke, he wants to
follow his instinct and do what he wants to do as opposed to obeying someone
else. He doesn't know much about Sasuke, but he does know that Naruto and Sakura
have been searching for Sasuke for years to keep their bonds from being severed.
Certainly, someone like Sasuke should know about something like that.
Which he does.
"That's why I severed them."
Sasuke thinks back to the Uchiha Massacre and his brutal defeat at the hands of
Uchiha Itachi when he and Kisame came looking for Naruto. "You lack hatred,"
Itachi reminded him.
Sasuke has…different bonds…fraternal bonds forged through hatred.
