Return of the Kazekage

Deidara emerges from the ground, bruised and tired but still very much alive. He is still surprised that Kakashi and the others were able to stop his suicide bomber clone. However he was able to escape because of the distraction.

Deidara has a flashback of himself using the suicide bomb move and Kakashi using his new Mangekyou Sharingan to get rid of the bomb’s explosion as well as destroying his arm. Deidara walks away saying that he needs to find his right arm and his ring to get them back.

Back at the Akatsuki hideout, Zetsu examines the surroundings and Sasori’s body and reflects that he has never seen Sasori’s true form before. Zetsu hears a shout and sees his companion waving and yelling that he has found Sasori’s ring. He asks Zetsu if he can join Akatsuki now since there is a space open.

Zetsu says it is not that simple but the man who is called Tobi says that they can just let him in since he is a good boy. Suddenly, Tobi drops the ring into a crack into the floor. Zetsu says they are leaving as Tobi gropes in the ground trying to find the ring. Zetsu ignores him and keeps walking as Tobi calls after him.

Baki runs through the entrance to the Sand Village. Outside the village all the citizens and shinobi have gathered to see Gaara’s return. Baki pushes his way to the front and watches the horizon for a sign. As the sun rises, he sees a shadow moving toward them. As they approach all the people start cheering. Kankuro comments that it is quite a crowd and Neji says that it is to be expected of the Kazekage. The townspeople surge forward to greet the group.

Baki walks forward to greet Gaara and he thanks Naruto. Naruto says he didn’t really do anything. Baki says that everyone from the village is waiting and the crowd parts to clear a path. As they are about to go, Gaara tells them to let Elder Chiyo go first. The others agree and so her body is taken in first. Baki tells everyone to pay their last respects and as they walk forward, Ebizo says that they are home now.

In Gaara’s room, Kankuro and the others urge Kakashi’s and Gai’s teams to stay for another day to rest up. Kakashi says that they would like to but he is worried about Akatsuki and if they may try something in Konoha. Baki says that they will want to get back as soon as possible and Kakashi agrees. Baki also says that they sent the mission results by hawk to the Leaf Village.

Kakashi says he will give a complete report on Akatsuki when they get back. In Konoha, the hawk arrives and Shizune gives the report to Tsunade. Shizune asks if it is wise to send Naruto out when Akatsuki wants his bijuu. Tsunade says that it is because Naruto is a Jinchuuriki that she sends him out because he can relate to others like him.

In the Sand Village, Naruto and the others approach Chiyo’s grave where Ebizo stands alone. They approach and Ebizo says that Chiyo never wanted a grave but he thought she should have one anyway. He tells them all to pay their last respects and farewells. They all close their eyes and pray.
When they finish they all walk away except for Naruto and Sakura who stay behind for a while longer. Lee calls to them and Naruto tells Sakura that it is time to go. Sakura touches the grave and says thank you to Chiyo.

At the entrance to the Sand Village, Naruto and the others prepare to leave. Naruto and Gaara stand looking at each other. Sheepishly, Naruto says that people would usually shake hands at that point but he is not good at that. He stops when he sees Gaara with his hand outstretched. Naruto looks up into Gaara’s face and sand gathers around Naruto’s hand moving it forward. Naruto shakes Gaara’s hand and he smiles.

In the desert, Gai helps Kakashi along but they are not moving very fast so they are getting left behind. Kakashi is watching Gai who has a strange look in his eyes. Tenten calls to them telling them to hurry up and Gai makes an angry face. Kakashi apologizes for not being able to move since he used his Sharingan too much.

Finally, Gai makes a loud noise and throws Kakashi in the air. Kakashi shouts and lands on Gai’s back. Gai grins at the others and they all think it is gross to see two grownups giving piggyback rides. Lee gets an idea and asks if it is training.

Gai smiles again and, with Kakashi looking quite forlorn, runs ahead telling them to try and keep up with him now. The others watch in disgust as he raises a cloud of dust behind him. Lee bends over and calls to Neji who flat out refuses.

In the forest, Tobi walks up to Deidara’s severed hand and comments that they got Deidara too. Zetsu walks up behind him and Tobi picks up the hand to look at the ring. Deidara emerges from behind a tree, out of breath, and shouts at Tobi to let go of his hand. Tobi shouts that he is alive. He then starts to insult Deidara though not on purpose.

Deidara warns him not to do it a third time and not to speak again or he will choose how Tobi dies. Tobi comments that Deidara would just blow him up and Zetsu says that that is the third time. Deidara wraps his legs around Tobi’s head and starts to strangle him.

Somewhere in Konoha, a man with a bandaged head, stands in a dark building in the middle of a cross path. He says that he has arranged for someone to become a member of Team Kakashi. He also says that he is the same age as Naruto Uzumaki and until the mission is over his name will be Sai. Sai smiles at the man, who tells him not to make fake smiles in front of him. Sai apologizes and says it is still hard for him to show emotion.
