Preparations are being made in order to protect the civilians from the
ongoing battle between Deidara and Gaara. Deidara lets C-3 plummet to
the ground and there is an incredible explosion.
In
Konoha, Naruto revisits Ichiraku Ramen and prepares to eat, but Iruka
arrives and says the meal’s on him. The only reason Sakura is not
around- she’s eating elsewhere- is because Naruto didn’t know Iruka
would be paying since he only had enough to pay for half of the bill.
Back
in Suna, it seems that the worst has occurred, but the village has been
protected by Gaara’s sand shield. Unfortunately, Deidara’s clay bird is
now within range of Gaara and he yells out “Katsu” just as the entire
barrier of sand covers Gaara completely. The bird detonates.
Commence episode.
Though
Gaara was able to crush Deidara’s left hand, he was able eat some of
the sand and mix it with his clay. Tiny spiders begin to crawl into the
ultimate defense and Deidara repeats the same phrase he said before
“Art is…a bang!” ("Geijutsu wa... bakahatsu da!”) The ultimate defense
rumbles loudly due to the explosion.
Back in Konoha, Iruka
thinks back to the various times he and Naruto spent at Ichiraku, such
as how Naruto wanted Iruka’s forehead protector. Naruto can’t help but
feel disappointed about one thing. Teuchi believes that Naruto’s going
to badmouth the ramen, but Naruto’s really disappointed because he was
hoping that the next time Iruka treated him to ramen would be when he
became a chuunin, and he’s the only one in his age group who’s still a
genin. Iruka tells him that he should be still glad because he got
personal training from Jiraiya himself, even though it was Jiraiya’s
strict training that led Naruto to get an entirely new outfit and
forehead protector. Upon hearing that Gaara is the Kazekage, Iruka
responds by saying that Gaara’s special, but Naruto replies that one
can’t become Kazekage just by being special.
In Suna, the sand barrier surrounding Gaara begins to collapse.
For
Team Kakashi’s first mission, Tsunade plans to have them as escorts in
a VIP Mission in the Rice Country in order to make up for the lack of
work Naruto and Sakura have done. It’s a B-rank mission, so Shizune
suggests a simpler mission, a D-ranked mission: walking dogs. Team
Kakashi would never take something like that, even though the Kyuubi
within Naruto could be a potential hazard if taken outside the gates of
Konoha. Tsunade gives them a C ranked mission: a coastal transport
convoy.
It turns out that Deidara’s C-3 was a diversion in order
to get closer to Gaara, who emerges from the barrier, broken and
beaten. Gaara uses the last of his powers to move the sand away from
the village. The shinobi below begin firing arrows, most of them having
explosive tags attached. Once all of the sand has been safely moved
away from the village, Gaara begins to descend. Deidara quickly catches
him and the two head off. “Mission accomplished” is all Deidara says as
they flee Suna.
