Homecoming

We return to the Naruto series not in Konoha, but in the halls of Orochimaru’s lair as Sakura, Naruto, and two others, later known as Yamato and Sai, search frantically for their comrade: Uchiha Sasuke.

“Not here,” Sakura says as she checks one room.

Room after room and Sasuke is nowhere to be found, but all of a sudden, a powerful explosion rocks the lair and rips apart a huge section of terrain. In the midst of the terrain stands Sai, who is soon found by Sakura. She looks ready to attack him, but all of a sudden, a voice utters “Sakura, huh?” Naruto rushes as quickly as he can towards the scene of destruction and arrives just as Sakura slowly whispers “Sasuke-kun…”

At the top of the cliff stands Uchiha Sasuke, who stares down at his former teammates. There is a flashback to Naruto and Sasuke’s long battle at the Valley of the End where the two spoke of bonds. Though Sasuke has severed his bonds, Naruto demands to know why he wasn’t killed back then during their fight, and Sasuke’s answer is that he didn’t want to attain power and gain the Mangekyou Sharingan by following Itachi’s methods. Essentially, Sasuke only spared Naruto at a whim. Before anyone can respond, Sasuke is before in a flash, showcasing speed like none before. He reminds Naruto of his dream to become Hokage and how the time spent looking for him could’ve been better spent on training, so this time, Naruto will die at Sasuke’s whim. Naruto responds by saying that someone couldn’t become Hokage if they couldn’t even save their closest friend. Sasuke withdraws his sword and goes for the strike.

Naruto finds himself before the gates of the Kyuubi once again and converses with the beast, who insists that Naruto calls upon him for power, just as he’s done before. All Naruto has to do is completely remove the seal and the Kyuubi’s power will be his. Before Naruto can do anything, Sasuke, Sharingan activated, intervenes. The Kyuubi notes Sasuke’s growth as an Uchiha, as a chakra that’s even darker and more sinister than his is similar to that of one Uchiha Madara. With one simple thrust, the Kyuubi disintegrates: apparently, Sasuke is able to suppress the Kyuubi chakra.

“And you expect me…to know that person?” Sasuke finishes.

Commence episode.

In Konoha, three shinobi, the squad of Konohamaru, Moegi, and Udon, chase emerge from the forests and chase furiously after a cat. Konohamaru runs smack dab into Teuchi, the ramen shop owner, who calls out Naruto’s name. Upon realizing that it’s not Naruto, he simply calls out Konohamaru’s name. The cat finds itself in an alley, yet it subdued after a short bout with Konohamaru. They report back to their sensei, Ebisu, that the cat, Tora, has been found. Unfortunately, as Ebisu tells his squad back at the Hokage tower, they are still lacking in strength and ability. Konohamaru blames this on the poor missions they’ve been given and, just as Naruto did in the past, demands a higher mission. However, the three only just became genin, so their missions aren’t going to get any better than D-rank anytime soon. Konohamaru still refuses, since he’s going to be the Seventh Hokage. Everyone’s a bit thrown, since there isn’t even a Sixth Hokage (Rokudaime), but Konohamaru believes that the title of the Sixth will go to Naruto.

Speaking of Naruto, it’s about time for him and Jiraiya to return to the village.

Meanwhile, Konohamaru spots Sakura, who was just on her way back to Tsunade. They head to Izumo and Kotetsu, who were minding the gate, only to find out that Naruto had already returned.

An ecstatic Naruto climbs atop a pillar and revels in how many memories Konoha has brought him.

“Everyone!” He yells. “Uzumaki Naruto has returned!”

Though Konoha is pretty much the same, the most Naruto finds that’s changed is that Tsunade’s face has been added to the Hokage monument. Sakura and the others soon spot him, and while Sakura notes Naruto’s change, Naruto blatantly tells her that she hasn’t changed one bit.

Konohamaru, through an impressive, yet boastful show, has perfected the Oiroke no Jutsu (Sexy Technique) and can now transform into a seductive female. Surprisingly, Naruto tells Konohamaru that such techniques should not be used. While it seems that Naruto’s matured for the best, he reveals that he has an even better newly developed perverted ninjutsu. Sakura gives him a powerful punch, courtesy of her training under Tsunade, and verbally assaults him for almost not having changed one bit.

At the Hokage tower, Naruto catches up with Tsunade, who wishes to see how much he’s learned by putting him up against a certain opponent who hasn’t been given missions in a while.

Before the name of the opponent can be given, the door to the office opens and the episode ends.
