As Chiyo explains to Sakura, the Iron Sand is based off of a jutsu from
a previous Shukaku host and can be changed into any form or weapon to
fit the situation. The Sandaime Kazekage was born with the ability to
change chakra into magnetic force, and now the puppet can perform the
same technique. To Sakura, this doesn’t make any sense since dolls
don’t have chakra, so how could a puppet perform a jutsu? Sasori is the
only one who can create a “human puppet,” a puppet that has all of the
jutsus that the person the puppet is based off of had. That is the best
advantage of a human puppet.
Chiyo decides to take care of Sasori from now on since there’s little
that Sakura can do. Since Sasori pulled out the Iron Sand, what can
Sakura possibly do to help? Before anything happens, Sasori sends his
puppet forward and uses what is known as Satetsu Shigure (Iron Sand
Drizzle). Sakura is rescued by the “Mother” puppet while Chiyo has the
“Father” block her with a chakra shield. The puppets have been upgraded
since Sasori last saw them. As this goes on, Chiyo thinks back to a
time when she saw Sasori’s mother and father embrace him in a hug, but
this happened because they were already puppets and he was merely
controlling them.
When Chiyo tries to move the father puppet, she sees that there is iron
sand on the arm. As Sasori explains to her, the iron sand jutsu cannot
be blocked and must be avoided at all costs. All Chiyo was concerned
with was protecting Sakura, so all of the iron sand has made its way
through the puppet’s body, meaning it won’t work anytime soon. Sasori
aims to take out both Chiyo and Sakura at the same time, and to do it,
he forms the iron sand into a lethal shape (the shape looks more like a
stalactites) and sends it down upon Sakura and Chiyo.
When the dust clears from the blasts, Sasori sees that Sakura has been
protected by the mother puppet, while Chiyo has protected herself with
own arm, meaning she partially turned her body into a puppet. Iron sand
has gotten on the arm, however, so it can’t revert back to its original
form.
In another flashback, Chiyo, after hearing about something fateful that
involves Konoha’s White Fang, is walking with Sasori through Suna when
the two spot a child that’s fallen over. His parents help him up and
Sasori, not having any parents anymore, watches them with casual
indifference. Later on, Chiyo offers to teach him a puppet control
technique that has been passed down from generations.
She shows him a room full of malfunctioned puppets made by people in
Suna and tells Sasori to use whatever he pleases to his advantage.
Later one evening, Chiyo checks on Sasori only to find that he’s
sleeping with what appear to be his parents. As it turns out, they are
only puppets.
Back in the present, Sasori forms an iron block and prism with the iron
sand. Chiyo tells Sakura to run for it, but instead, Sakura requests
that Chiyo use her as her puppet. A flesh puppet is immune to the Iron
Sand. Chiyo can’t support Sakura as much since she can only use one
arm, but that’s perfectly fine. While Sakura doesn’t have any weapons
in her like a puppet, she does have Tsunade’s contempt for losing, and
that’s good enough.
Since iron and steel won’t work, Sakura will have to rely on the
godlike strength she inherited from Tsunade. It comes in handy when she
sends the iron block flying like a rag doll, but she’s not done yet.
The battle just got started.
